Pistacia lentiscus fruit oil
As sun exposure intensifies, skin protection goes beyond SPF
Summer 2026 is driving extreme heatwaves across Western Europe, with countries like France, Germany, Switzerland and Austria recording historic summer temperatures.
Concurrently, consumer habits are evolving. Data from France’s 2026 FEBEA–OpinionWay Barometer shows a 12-point decline in standard sunscreen usage at the beach or pool compared with 2024
After UV exposure, skin requires targeted defense against oxidative stress, lipid loss, and barrier breakdown.
This is where Pistacia lentiscus fruit oil (or Lentisk fruit oil) reveals its potential.
A naturally complete plant matrix
Rich in oleic and linoleic acids, and naturally containing tocopherols, phytosterols and polyphenols, lentisk fruit oil combines lipid support with antioxidant protection.
Research conducted on human skin and cutaneous models supports its interest in helping protect skin lipids from oxidative stress and supporting the skin’s natural recovery mechanisms.
Used alongside appropriate photoprotection, it offers clear potential for after-sun care, protective emulsions, oil serums and bi-phase formulations.
A distinctive aromatic signature
Its value is also sensory.
Published profiles report a high proportion of monoterpenes among the volatile compounds of lentisk oil. 4 fragrance-relevant markers like α-pinene, β-pinene, D-limonene and β-caryophyllene, stand out in the volatile profile.
Together, they create naturally fresh, green, resinous, citrus and subtly spicy facets, an unusual aromatic dimension for a vegetable oil and a valuable asset for formulations where natural sensory identity matters.
Terroir (ECOTYPE) as a quality parameter
At SAHARÔME, the berries come from selected natural populations across different terroirs in Kabylie, Algeria.
The harvest season opens in October, with careful control of fruit maturity, identified collection areas and traceability down to the harvesting territory.
Evaluations of our Pistacia lentiscus oil have begun in July 2026 with selected partners and formulators.
